Artist Statement

My art is a visual representation of how my brain works to experience the world. I’ve always been intrigued by the colors that dance around in my head and their connection to feelings, emotions, memories and the five senses my body experiences from moment to moment.

Biography:

Pia Louise Capaldi is a synaesthetic artist and spiritual coach based in Portland Maine and more recently Effingham, NH. Having possessed the neurological phenomenon of Synaethesia (the crossing of the senses) for as long as she can remember, Pia has always had the ability to visualize the five sense in abstract color, shape and form. During her years attending art school at the University of Southern Maine she perfected her technique of capturing sound through her preferred mediums of oil paint and mixed media; rendering the sounds of nature, her favorite musical artists and ethereal voices of friends and family. Pia greatly believes in the healing and therapeutic powers of art and authentic expression and the benefits it has to the mind, body and soul. Pia has been featured in DownEast Magazine as well as Maine Women’s Magazine.
